Fred Cooper, a bricklayer by trade saw the need to be able to close off the top of the chimney, so he developed his first damper out of angle iron, wire cable and a piece of steel plate.

The current model is a far cry from that first basic unit, with welded plates which close up tight, stainless steel cable, and powder coated finish.

Fred started buying wind cowls to fit to chimneys to prevent "blowback" or "downdraught" which occurs due to the wind being  blocked by a second storey, a tree or a roofline higher than the chimney.

He soon realised that he could improve the design and started making his own.

Once again the current model is a far cry from the early units. It is computer cut steel, perfectly balanced and powder coated, and guaranteed to prevent wind coming down the chimney, even in a light breeze.

Fifteen years ago Fred's wife Pat asked the question; "Why couldn't you design a damper and cowl in one unit, to save fitting separate units?"

So Fred spent a few months working it out and resulted in the "Combination Damper / cowl" unit, for a lot less than the cost of fitting a separate damper and a cowl.

I bought the Business when Fred retired  at the end of 2004, after fitting hundreds of units over the last ten years, and I am committed to giving the same service and advice that customers have been used to for the last 20 years..
